Founded in 1974, Changshu Switchgear Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a state-invested leader in electrical R&D and manufacturing and a National Innovation Pilot Enterprise, with a workforce of over 1,700. It specializes in developing and manufacturing low- and medium-voltage distribution devices, industrial control devices, low- and medium-voltage assemblies, photovoltaic inverters and intelligent power-distribution monitoring systems—products widely used across the power, machinery, metallurgy and petrochemical, construction, marine and new-energy generation sectors—and has twice won the Second-Class National Science & Technology Progress Award.
Key Results
The Journey
From 1992 to 2018, three decades of sustained investment drove the continuous evolution of the R&D system.
At significant cost in foreign currency, the company introduced Siemens UG (the predecessor of NX) CAD/CAM software, replacing traditional drawing boards with 3D design and CNC machining—taking the first pioneering step toward digital R&D.
The company fully adopted UG (NX) for product design and simultaneously deployed IMAN (the predecessor of Teamcenter) for product data management, establishing a digital R&D system that is searchable, controllable and shareable.
Upgrading its existing systems to Teamcenter 8 / NX 7.5, the company progressively introduced Simcenter 3D, NX Motion, FloEFD and other modules to run multidisciplinary simulation assessments of product structural strength, thermal and flow performance.
By adopting Teamcenter Manufacturing and Tecnomatix, the company introduced production-line assembly simulation and human-factors engineering simulation, extending digitalization from R&D into process planning and the manufacturing floor.
Upgrading the Teamcenter platform and NX to TC11 / NX12, the company introduced Siemens CNC system solutions (TSM) and Simulation Data Management (SDM), connecting a complete Digital Thread from CNC to simulation data.

Today, Changshu Switchgear runs its entire R&D and manufacturing operations on a complete Siemens digital platform.
After fully adopting Siemens digital solutions, Changshu Switchgear cut its product development cycle by another third and greatly improved its first-time success rate. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Shanghai UCITC and Siemens.
